Do “verão quente sindical” ao inverno trumpiano: uma análise da dinâmica política e organizativa atual do movimento sindical estadunidense

Resumen

Após décadas de declive, desde a pandemia do COVID-19, o movimento sindical estadunidense mostra sinais de revitalização, com novos processos de organização, a realização de greves de escopo mais amplo no setor público e privado, e a incorporação de temas menos corporativistas nas suas pautas. Essa onda atual de sindicalização difere de outras tentativas recentes de aumentar o poder sindical por ser protagonizada mais diretamente pelos trabalhadores de base. Este artigo analisará a dinâmica atual sindical nos EUA, utilizando indicadores tanto qualitativos quanto quantitativos, para entender melhor suas rupturas e continuidades com as tradições do “sindicalismo de negócios” e do “sindicalismo social,” típicas do sindicalismo estadunidense. Os resultados preliminares dessa pesquisa indicam que, apesar das inovações qualitativas nas formas organizativas e posicionamentos políticos dos sindicatos estadunidenses que formam parte dessa nova tendência, ainda não houve um aumento de poder sindical quantitativo, devido a entraves legislativos, práticas antissindicais arraigadas por parte dos empresários, e a falta de expressões políticas partidárias mais ligadas à classe trabalhadora.

Jana Silverman, Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC)

Jana Karen Silverman ´é Professora Visitante no Programa de Bacharelado em Relações Internacionais da Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC).  Ela possui PhD em Desenvolvimento Econômico da UNICAMP, e também fez um estágio pós-doutoral na Escola de Estudos Laborais e de Relações de Trabalho da Universidade Penn State. Ela atualmente e Chair da Secao de Estudos Laborais da Latin American Studies Association (LASA).
