Reason as dialectic science, social science and socialist science
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article Reason as dialetic: science, social science, and socialist science was first pub-lished in 1976 in the journal Radical Philosophy. In this article, Edgley argues that reality is contradictory in itself, that the contradiction of reality can and should be brought to scientific awareness (not least because the contradiction of ideas is part of the world) and that this knowledge can serve to transform reality. At a still early point in the formation of the postmodern, anti-realist and conservative wave that is devastating for the support of scientific discourse, Edgley already rebelled against the disqualification of truth, the denial of reason and social setbacks. What the reader has at his disposal now is a text that, almost fifty years after its publication, is still current and necessary to reaffirm the place of truth, reason and Marxism as a critical scientific theory.
